Meta is at the center of a new scandal, after the Swedish publication Svenska Dagbladet revealed that intimate recordings made with the company's smart glasses are being viewed by third-party contractors. To develop its artificial intelligence, the company uses collaborators who annotate based on the images, describing what appears in the recordings, as AI understands better what it reads than what it sees.
Contractors from Kenya reported that they have seen images of naked people, during sexual acts or in the bathroom, but also sensitive information, such as credit cards with visible numbers, including from the European Union, where GDPR imposes strict rules regarding privacy protection. Meta stated that the data is processed according to the terms of use when the artificial intelligence is activated.
