The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced on Thursday the dismantling of a spy network consisting of 14 members, active on Telegram and established by a fanatic. They were recruited without knowing that they were working for Russia's military intelligence agency, the GRU.
The network was collecting information about Ukrainian airfields where F-16 and Mirage 2000 aircraft are stationed. The first recruit was a resident of Lviv, who managed a Telegram channel dedicated to aviation and posted photographs of military aircraft. He subsequently recruited 13 subscribers, who photographed airfields and crews using high-quality cameras.
The information was transmitted to a Russian coordinator via an online storage service. The SBU conducted searches, discovering relevant equipment and photographs. Three individuals have been charged with crimes against national security, and the investigation continues to identify other participants.
