Vodafone and AST SpaceMobile launch Satellite Connect Europe, a mobile connectivity service via satellite directly to phones in the EU

Satellite Connect Europe, established in 2025 as a joint venture between Vodafone and AST SpaceMobile, officially launches satellite connectivity services of the 'direct to device' (D2D) type in Europe.

Based in Luxembourg, the company aims to expand mobile service coverage by collaborating with European mobile operators. The new management team, led by Meredith Sharples as Managing Director, includes industry veterans such as John Slamecka and Darren Ennis. Satellite Connect Europe will implement five ground stations in Europe, already advancing in Spain and the UK, to support complete coverage at the European level.

The services offered will integrate AST SpaceMobile's satellite technology, allowing users to benefit from mobile connectivity without updates or special software. This initiative is expected to significantly improve coverage experience for consumers, strengthening mobile networks across Europe.
