The United Kingdom has appointed Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury, the first woman in this position in 1,400 years of history. She becomes the spiritual leader for 85 million Anglicans, but her appointment could deepen divisions with conservative branches in Africa. Mullally, a former nurse, has advocated for an open and transparent church. As Bishop of London, she contributed to the modernization of the diocese and has spoken firmly against assisted euthanasia. Her appointment was made with the consent of King Charles, highlighting the status of the Anglican Church in British society.
