King Mohammed VI of Morocco appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri prime minister on Tuesday, after her party, the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), won the most seats in the parliamentary elections on September 23. The appointment, announced by the royal palace, marks a first for Morocco.
El Mansouri was received by the king at the royal palace and was tasked with forming the new government. She is a lawyer by profession and previously served as housing minister. Until her appointment as head of government, she was mayor of the city of Marrakech.
PAM is part of the governing coalition, and the new executive will have to manage billion-dollar investments for projects associated with the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Announced priorities include combating inflation, raising wages, and creating jobs.
