Sarah Mullally was appointed on Friday as the Archbishop of Canterbury, thus becoming the first woman to hold this position and spiritual leader for the 85 million Anglicans worldwide. She replaces Justin Welby, who resigned due to a scandal involving the cover-up of child abuse. Mullally, at the age of 63, has been the Bishop of London since 2018 and had a prior career as a nurse and medical director within the National Health Service.
