Ryanair, the low-cost airline that transports 200 million passengers annually, will change the check-in deadline for passengers who check in luggage, requiring them to register one hour before departure, instead of 40 minutes, starting in November. This change aims to provide more time for passing through security and passport control, thus reducing the number of passengers who miss flights due to queues. Although it is not directly related to the introduction of the EU Entry-Exit System (EES), which has led to increased waiting times, Ryanair has acknowledged that this system has contributed to airport congestion. The company estimates that most passengers will not be affected, as 80% of them check in online.
Ryanair will install self-service kiosks for luggage drop-off at over 95% of its airports, promising faster service and shorter queues. Marketing director Dara Brady emphasized that these measures will improve the passenger experience, while CEO Michael O’Leary defended the strict luggage rules, encouraging travelers to travel with less luggage.
