Ryan Routh, 59 years old, was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison for the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, in the context of the 2024 presidential elections.
The incident occurred on September 15, 2024, when Routh hid in a bush on Trump's golf course, armed with a submachine gun. Although he initially managed to escape, he was later arrested. Routh was found guilty of illegal possession of a firearm and obstruction of a federal agent. Investigators discovered that he was living in a truck parking lot and was stalking the victim, having six mobile phones and using false identities.
Despite lacking legal training, Routh chose to represent himself in court, but was stopped by the judge during his plea. This was the second assassination attempt on Trump, who had already been the target of a previous attack.
