The Ukrainian police announced the discovery of a network of agents from Russian intelligence services, which was preparing assassinations and terrorist attacks in Ukraine and in European Union states. The network includes citizens from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Latvia, and Greece, having various roles, from gathering information to logistics.
The international operation led to arrests in Lithuania and other European countries, as well as searches in Ukraine, Poland, and Greece. Authorities documented direct links to Russian intelligence services and the recruitment of vulnerable Ukrainian citizens.
Funding for the activities was carried out through a complex system, including cryptocurrencies. Among the targeted victims were journalists and activists critical of Russia.
Lithuania has filed charges against 13 individuals, of whom 9 have been detained. This is not the first time that Moldovan citizens are involved in such networks, a similar case occurred in February when 11 Moldovans were detained for planning assassinations in Ukraine.
