The spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, stated that Moscow's initial demands for a solution to the conflict in Ukraine are essential for dialogue with the United States and other nations. Russia insists that there is no alternative to achieving the objectives of its special military operation, announced in February 2022.
Among Russia's demands are the guarantee of Ukraine's neutral status, its demilitarization, the protection of the rights of the Russian-speaking population, and the free activity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Zakharova also mentioned that Russia is open to continuing contacts with the U.S., following statements from President Trump. Despite the declared openness, Moscow has delayed the negotiation process and maintained firm demands, accusing Kiev of slowing down the discussions.
