The Daily Telegraph reported that Russian authorities ignored British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's threats to detain tankers from the 'shadow fleet' in British waters. According to the publication, the tankers Universal and Enigma were escorted by the Admiral Grigorovich frigate of the Russian Black Sea Fleet while crossing the English Channel, followed by the British auxiliary vessel HMS Tideforce.

Additionally, two other tankers from the 'shadow fleet' transited the strait in the opposite direction. Since Starmer's announcement in March, when he allowed the British Navy to stop and inspect Russian tankers, no vessel has been detained in British waters, in contrast to France, which has acted against several such ships. In the event of a vessel's detention, the owners, operators, and crew could be charged with violating British sanctions laws.
