The project also includes the necessary infrastructure for border crossing, with a Khassan border point under construction, capable of initially receiving 300 vehicles and 2,850 people per day. Currently, Russia and North Korea are only connected by air and rail links. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the bridge will support the development of trade and humanitarian exchanges. The announcement coincided with the visit of the Russian Minister of Internal Affairs to Pyongyang, and relations between Moscow and Pyongyang have strengthened since 2022, in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. North Korea receives aid from Russia, including weapons and military technology.
