Romanian Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu and his French counterpart have called for at least a two-year extension of the EU-Mercosur Agreement. This would allow a detailed analysis of the impact of the agreement on European farmers. Barbu stressed that Romania cannot accept the agreement in its current form, which would create difficulties for Romanian farmers. In addition, it was agreed to sign a joint declaration of opposition, which will be joined by other member states such as Italy and Poland. Romania and France will also support the maintenance of a separate European agricultural policy with an adequate budget for farmers.
