An Italian military base in Iraqi Kurdistan was attacked with a rocket during the night, but the Ministry of Defense in Rome announced that there are no casualties or injuries among the approximately 300 Italian soldiers stationed there.
The Italian Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, maintained contact with military commanders to assess the situation, and the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, confirmed that the military personnel took shelter in a bunker and are safe. The Kurdistan region and the capital Erbil have been targets of attacks attributed to pro-Iranian factions, but most have been neutralized by air defense systems. Italy is contributing to the training of Kurdish security forces in this area.
