The law, signed by Mayor Eduardo Paes, requires messages such as "Did you know that the unborn child is thrown away as hospital waste?" to be displayed. Reproductive rights activists see the law as yet another example of restricting access to abortion in Brazil, where abortion is legal only in cases of rape, danger to the mother's life or fatal anencephaly of the fetus.
