<p>The "golden visa" program allows foreigners to acquire a country's citizenship in exchange for buying real estate, government bonds or creating start-ups. Portugal's "Golden Residence Permit" program is among the popular options as it requires an investment of just €250,000 and offers citizenship after five years. Other options include Greece, Spain or Italy, as well as Malta or Austria, which offer immediate citizenship but are more expensive.
