The woman, from Hokkaido, met the scammer on social media, where he presented himself as an astronaut. After engaging in romantic conversations with him, the scammer claimed that he was in space and needed money for oxygen, thus managing to extract 1 million yen from her. The police classified the case as "a romance scam."
