After Madel's withdrawal, the competition for the Republican nomination remains open, with over ten candidates, including the Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Lisa Demuth, and former state senator Scott Jensen.

The winner of the primary elections on August 11 will compete against Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar, who is considered the favorite. The current governor, Tim Walz, has withdrawn from running for a new term due to a scandal related to fraud in social assistance.
