Russian leader Vladimir Putin stated on Friday that there are no reasons to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who sent an open letter proposing face-to-face discussions to agree on ending the war. Putin characterized the letter as cheeky and suggested that it is not a sincere proposal.

At the annual economic forum in St. Petersburg, he said he sees no sense in meeting with Zelensky, at least for now. In a previous meeting with international press, Putin maintained a firm stance regarding the war, stating that Russian troops are advancing on the battlefield. He also mentioned that former U.S. President Donald Trump's peace proposals could be a solution if Ukraine is willing to make compromises. Russian nationalists have dismissed Zelensky's letter, considering it a public relations maneuver without genuine intentions to end the conflict.
