Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an ironic response to a Russian journalist who repeatedly asked him when he would visit Moscow. He made the remark in New York as the Ukrainian leader was leaving the headquarters of the United Nations, where he had attended the UN General Assembly.
“I’ll come riding on a missile,” Zelensky said, referring to repeated invitations from Russian officials for a bilateral meeting in the Russian capital.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, and Vladimir Putin have repeatedly argued that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine should take place in Moscow. Lavrov recently said that Russia is ready for talks, but that military operations would not be suspended during the negotiations.
Zelensky rejected the proposal and told Putin to go to Kyiv if he wanted a meeting. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is trying to revive negotiations, with the possibility of a meeting between Putin, Zelensky, and Trump also being discussed. However, a recent visit by US envoys to Moscow produced no results.
