Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the authorities to ensure the uninterrupted operation of essential internet services, including for medical assistance and payments, in the context of possible network restrictions, according to a statement from the Kremlin. The measures must be prepared by July 1, under the responsibility of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and FSB Director Aleksandr Bortnikov.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized the importance of including essential services on 'whitelist'. Researcher Aleksandra Prokopenko warned that these measures institutionalize internet disruptions, turning them into normality.
Disruptions began last year, citing security reasons, but have increased in intensity, affecting daily life and businesses. The FSB justifies these measures as necessary to protect against external threats, while experts consider them part of a 'digital gulag' aimed at the informational isolation of Russia.
