A nearly 300-year-old white quebracho tree has sparked intense protests and legal action in Argentina as a road is being extended in Villa Allende. Environmental activists and neighbours have mobilized under the slogan "Hands off the quebracho", organizing vigils and encampments to protect it. Although the municipality claims the move is necessary for road safety, experts warn that the tree will not survive the transplanting. The protests have led to the arrest of two people and the tree's removal is planned under police supervision.
