Jack Bentley, a prison officer from Great Britain, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison after causing a serious accident on April 6, 2025. While driving at 114 km/h on the A50 road, he was distracted by his mobile phone, being preoccupied with betting games. The accident occurred near the locality of Foston, causing severe injuries to a 33-week pregnant woman, who suffered a pelvic fracture and underwent emergency surgery. The baby was born prematurely, and the father missed the birth due to the circumstances. Other victims included a child with an ankle fracture and a dog that required surgical intervention. Bentley pleaded guilty to causing serious injury through dangerous driving, and the judge emphasized the seriousness of his actions. His lawyer stated that he deeply regrets the incident. Bentley has been suspended from his position as a prison officer until the conclusion of the trial.
