Princess Mette-Marit of Norway issued a statement in which she apologizes for her friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, after new documents were released by the U.S. Department of Justice. These documents include email correspondence between Mette-Marit and Epstein, who was convicted in 2008 for soliciting a minor prostitute. Mette-Marit acknowledged that she had poor judgment in maintaining contacts with Epstein and apologized for the impact on the royal family.

The Prime Minister of Norway has requested further details about the relationships of other Norwegian personalities with Epstein. Additionally, recent scandals have affected the royal family, including the trial of Mette-Marit’s son for rape and domestic violence. The correspondence between the crown princess and Epstein began in 2011, and the cordial tone of the messages has sparked controversy in Norway.
