Portugal officially recognized Palestine as a state, but made a mistake by publicly posting a message with the flag of Sudan instead of that of Palestine.

The official recognition of Palestine as a state by Portugal was overshadowed by a protocol error when the Portuguese government published a message with the flag of Sudan instead of the Palestinian one. Although the flags have similar colors, the mistake was quickly corrected. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, reaffirmed the commitment to the two-state solution and condemned the terrorist attacks in Israel. Portugal joins other European countries in supporting the Palestinian state.
