On Friday, Pope Leo XIV received the legendary actor Robert De Niro at the Vatican, marking a special meeting. The pontiff, originally from Chicago, shook De Niro's hand and said: "I am pleased to meet you," to which the actor responded with the same appreciation. At the end of the meeting, the Pope gifted De Niro a rosary, a symbolic gesture of welcome.
Also, a day earlier, the actor was honored with the highest civil distinction of Rome, the Lupa Capitolina, by Mayor Roberto Gualtieri. De Niro, at the age of 82, emphasized his ties to Italy, mentioning his family's Italian origins and thanking the officials for this distinction.
