Pope Leo XIV announced on December 18 the acceptance of Cardinal Timothy Dolan's resignation from the leadership of the Archdiocese of New York. Dolan, a prominent figure in the American conservative camp, has turned 75, the age at which, according to canon law, he is required to retire. His successor, Bishop Ronald Hicks, 58 years old and originally from Illinois, is not very well known. Timothy Dolan, born on February 6, 1950, was an influential cardinal of the Catholic Church and participated in the conclave in May 2025, where he was elected Pope Leo XIV. He was elevated to the rank of cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI.
