In his first encyclical, titled 'Magnifica Humanitas', Pope Leon referred to the words of Gandalf from 'The Lord of the Rings', emphasizing the importance of action for the common good. Although he did not explicitly mention Tolkien's name, the quote reflects his vision of human responsibility in the face of current challenges.

The encyclical, launched alongside billionaire Christopher Olah, addresses the need to 'disarm' artificial intelligence, warning about the risks of autonomous weapons and neocolonial attitudes in data collection. Pope Leon emphasized that technology must serve humanity, not dominate it, and called for the building of a 'civilization of love', in which each individual contributes to the common good. The 40,000-word document updates Catholic social teaching, urging active collaboration for a better future.
