In a speech delivered on Sunday, Pope Leo highlighted the importance of major sporting events, such as the Olympic Games, in conveying a strong message of fraternity and hope for a peaceful world. The Pontiff reminded of the tradition of the Olympic Truce, which accompanies the holding of the Games, and urged leaders to take concrete steps towards de-escalation and dialogue. The Winter Olympic Games will take place between February 6 and 22, in Cortina d'Ampezzo and Milan. Additionally, the Pope expressed his concern regarding the tensions between the United States and Cuba, calling for sincere dialogue to prevent violence and suffering for the Cuban people, in the context of President Trump's threats regarding tariffs on oil imports from Cuba.
