The pontiff said that reducing drug addiction is not achieved by liberalizing consumption, contradicting proposals in some countries. Pope Francis stressed the importance of listening, understanding and loving every addict, without distinguishing between "soft" and "hard" drugs. He also condemned the destructive impact of drug production on the environment.
