Polish security services detained a student from the Catholic University of Lublin, Mateusz W., suspected of planning a mass attack at a Christmas market.

According to the spokesperson for the special services, Jacek Dobrzynski, the student intended to use explosives and wanted to join a terrorist organization to obtain assistance in carrying out his actions. The purpose of the attack was to intimidate the public and to support the Islamic State. During the investigation, authorities confiscated data storage devices and items related to Islam. Mateusz W. was charged with preparing a terrorist attack that could have caused the death or serious injury of many people and was placed in detention for a preliminary period of three months. The investigation is being conducted by the ABW branch in Szczecin.
