The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, and his Swedish counterpart, Ulf Kristersson, signed a historic contract for the acquisition of three state-of-the-art submarines from the Swedish company Saab, worth approximately 4.5 billion euros.
The agreement, signed during intergovernmental consultations, will strengthen military cooperation between Poland and Sweden in the Baltic Sea region. Tusk emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, expressing his hope that the Baltic Sea will become a zone of peace. Kristersson mentioned that, with the delivery of the submarines, Poland will have one of the strongest fleets in NATO.
Additionally, Poland will lease the submarine HMS Sodermanland until 2032 to quickly enhance its operational capabilities. The contract will create over 7,000 jobs in Poland and will involve hundreds of Polish companies as subcontractors for Saab, which will invest 100 million euros in the country.
