The government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk has approved a bill that introduces 'cohabitation contracts' for couples living together, regardless of sex. This measure represents a step forward in recognizing same-sex unions in a predominantly Catholic country with restrictive policies for LGBT rights. Although Tusk has promised reforms in the field of LGBT rights and abortion, these initiatives have faced opposition from the conservative coalition partner and threats of veto from party leaders close to the nationalist PiS party.

The bill allows the signing of a cohabitation contract that offers rights such as access to medical information and joint tax deductions, but does not legalize marriages between same-sex individuals.
