Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Moscow on Tuesday, October 27, amid deepening relations between the two countries. The visit will take place during the summit of gas-exporting countries, and the discussions will focus on economic cooperation, as well as geopolitical and international issues.
The information was announced by the Iranian Tasnim news agency, which quoted Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that dialogue between Tehran and Moscow would continue next week in the presence of the two presidents.
Russia and Iran, both subject to international sanctions, have strengthened their political, economic and military cooperation since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. Araghchi recently said that relations between the two countries had never been so close.
The meeting comes amid stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States and growing threats of new Israeli-American strikes on Iran. At the beginning of October, Vladimir Putin offered to help mediate between Tehran and Washington.
