Peter Mandelson, former ambassador of the United Kingdom to the USA, has resigned from the Labour Party to prevent "other embarrassing situations" related to his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Peter Mandelson announced that he has resigned from the Labour Party, his decision being influenced by recently published documents from the U.S. Department of Justice, which suggest that Epstein made payments of $75,000 to accounts associated with Labour members between 2003 and 2004. Mandelson stated that he has no evidence of these payments and does not recall receiving them. In a letter addressed to the party's general secretary, he explained that he does not wish to cause further embarrassment to the Labour Party. He also reiterated his apologies to Epstein's victims, acknowledging that he was wrong to continue collaborating with him.

The Labour Party stated that it takes all complaints seriously and that they are being investigated according to internal rules.
