Peruvian journalist Fernando Nuñez was assassinated by armed men on Saturday while returning from a report in the La Libertad region, according to the National Association of Journalists (ANP). The attack occurred during a motorcycle ride, alongside his brother, who was seriously injured. This is the third case of a journalist's assassination in Peru this year, highlighting an alarming escalation of violence against journalists. The ANP has requested authorities to investigate Nuñez's journalistic activities as a possible motive for the crime. Additionally, official statistics show an increase in crime in Peru, with 1,888 murders reported by October 2025, representing an increase of nearly 13% compared to the previous year. This situation has led to the ousting of President Dina Boluarte due to her inability to manage the security crisis.
