A person of interest has been detained in connection with the attack at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, which occurred during final exams. Two people were killed, and nine were injured, of which one suffered minor injuries and was discharged, seven are in stable condition, and one is in critical condition. The university president, Christina Paxson, stated that all the victims were students.

The suspect, captured on surveillance cameras, was detained in a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island, having two weapons on him. Authorities have not confirmed whether he was a student at the university. Police activity continues in areas considered "active scenes," and access is restricted. The university has canceled the remaining classes and exams for the semester, providing support to affected students. The mayor of Providence announced an increased presence of law enforcement in the city to provide comfort to the community.
