Officials and military personnel at the U.S. Department of Defense say they are preparing documents and testimony to help remove Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after the November midterm elections. The sources, cited by the Daily Mail and speaking anonymously, claim they have collected emails, memos and meeting notes over the past 22 months.
According to them, the documents would describe decisions made without consulting experts in intelligence, security, logistics and law, pressure placed on subordinates, and the alleged concealment of information from Congress and the public. The sources say the material could be used in a potential impeachment investigation if Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives.
The allegations follow the dismissal of Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, one of the Pentagon’s top military planners. Sylvia was allegedly removed for disclosing classified information, without the public having been provided evidence to support this claim.
Critics say Hegseth has caused the dismissal of several senior officials and fostered a climate of fear within the institution. They also claim that the secretary downplayed logistical problems and ammunition consumption during operations against Iran. The Pentagon spokesperson rejected the accusations, calling them “backroom intrigues” and “sensationalist gossip.”
