This is the third referendum organized in Paris in recent years to expand pedestrian zones. Deputy mayor Patrick Bloche stressed the importance of reclaiming public space for pedestrians and light traffic. Since the Socialists took power, car traffic has decreased significantly and the use of bicycles has increased considerably. Approved, the referendum will eliminate 10,000 parking spaces, adding to those eliminated from 2020.
