Palestinian groups have expressed deep concerns regarding the safety of Marwan Barghouti, an imprisoned political leader, after his son, Qassam Barghouti, reported that he received a call claiming that Israeli guards had tortured him. In a Facebook post, Qassam mentioned that his father had been severely beaten, with broken ribs and teeth, and part of his ear had been cut off. Although he deleted the post, concerns have grown, and prisoner rights organizations have condemned the intimidation of the Barghouti family. Marwan Barghouti, considered a symbol of the Palestinian struggle, is serving five life sentences for charges related to attacks during the Second Intifada. His family has also launched an international campaign for his release, fearing that he could die in prison. Currently, over 9,300 Palestinian prisoners are in Israeli jails, and human rights organizations have reported deaths caused by torture and medical neglect.
