More than 60 migrants jumped from a motorboat onto the Cala del Barco beach in southern Spain, in an attempt to illegally reach the city of Atamaría in Murcia.

The incident raised questions about the effectiveness of maritime border control, with Senator Francisco Bernabé and the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, expressing their concern. The Civil Guard arrested 62 people, including 45 men, two women, and 15 boys, all in good health, and the migrants were handed over to the Spanish National Police.

Most will be returned to their countries of origin, but they will be able to apply for asylum.

This incident is part of a broader trend of migrant landings on Spanish beaches, following risky journeys across the Mediterranean Sea.
