Viktor Orban states that a confiscation of Russian assets would amount to a "declaration of war"

Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, stated that any attempt to confiscate Russian assets would be considered a "declaration of war." This comes in the context of discussions at the European Union summit in Brussels, where a political decision is expected regarding the use of these assets to support Ukraine. The Kremlin has warned that it will react firmly, taking into account the votes of EU member states.

The EU's plan to use Russian assets to finance Ukraine's war effort is facing difficulties, and several countries, including Italy, Bulgaria, and Malta, have called for alternative solutions. Orban and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico have firmly opposed the use of these assets for military spending, while approximately 192 billion euros of Russian assets are managed by Euroclear.
