Olaf Scholz, former Chancellor of Germany, will testify on Friday as part of an investigation conducted by the authorities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern regarding the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The project, intended for transporting Russian gas to Germany, has not become operational due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Scholz halted the operating license for the pipeline in February 2022, in the context of international tensions.
Although Nord Stream 2 was built during his term, it faced opposition from Ukraine, Poland, the USA, and other countries. Currently, both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 are non-operational, after explosions and gas leaks occurred in 2022. Judicial investigations have been initiated in Germany, Sweden, and Denmark, but only those in Scandinavia have concluded. Scholz and other officials have acknowledged errors in Germany's foreign policy, particularly in assessing Russia's intentions.
