A new incident of attack on commercial vessels occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, where a tanker reported that it was hit by a projectile of unknown origin.
The emergency call was transmitted on VHF radio channel 16 on the night from Monday to Tuesday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident took place approximately 20 nautical miles (37 kilometers) northeast of Al Khasab, Oman. Although the report does not indicate who might be responsible for the attack, there is an observed increase in the number of attacks on vessels near the coasts of Oman.
In the previous days, another tanker was hit adrift, and another captain reported an explosion near his vessel.
