The Workers' Party of North Korea has announced the organization of the 9th congress at the end of February 2026, the first meeting of this kind in five years.
This assembly will take place in Pyongyang and will address national orientations, including the nuclear program, which is considered extremely sensitive. Since the last meeting in 2021, North Korea has declared its status as a nuclear power "irreversible" and has moved closer to Russia, receiving aid in exchange for military support. Kim Jong Un has emphasized the intention to clarify plans for strengthening nuclear deterrence, despite international sanctions. The congress will also address economic policies, in a country criticized for prioritizing weapons at the expense of the population's welfare.
In diplomatic terms, North Korea refuses dialogue with the South and has not responded to meeting proposals from the United States, maintaining its position of excluding denuclearization.
