North Korea announced on Monday the completion of a new residential district in Pyongyang, intended for the families of North Korean soldiers who died fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine. Leader Kim Jong Un, accompanied by his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, visited the new street, named Saeppyol Street, advocating for the honoring of the "young martyrs" who sacrificed themselves for the homeland. In recent months, North Korea has intensified propaganda to glorify the troops deployed in the war in Ukraine, including by building a memorial wall and a museum. Analysts believe that these actions are meant to strengthen internal unity and prevent public discontent. Additionally, Kim Jong Un has sent thousands of soldiers and military equipment in support of Vladimir Putin, in the context of common confrontations with the United States. South Korea's National Intelligence Service estimated that approximately 6,000 North Korean soldiers have been injured or killed in the conflict, and the agency emphasized that North Korean forces benefit from modern combat experience and technical support from Russia. The completion of the new district coincides with North Korea's preparations for a major party congress, where Kim is expected to announce his domestic and foreign policy objectives for the next five years.
