Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been stripped of the Legion of Honor after being sentenced to one year in prison for corruption

Nicolas Sarkozy, former president of France between 2007 and 2012, has been stripped of the Legion of Honor, a distinction rarely withdrawn from a former head of state, following his one-year prison sentence for corruption. The decision was anticipated after the Court of Cassation rejected his appeal. Sarkozy was found guilty of concluding a corruption pact with a magistrate in exchange for an honorary post. His conviction includes a three-year ban from being elected.
