The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the weight loss pill developed by Novo Nordisk, giving the Danish company a significant advantage in the American obesity treatment market. The oral medication, which contains 25 mg of semaglutide – the same active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic – will be marketed under the Wegovy brand and is intended for the chronic management of weight in adults with obesity or overweight, marking a strategic step for Novo in direct competition with rival Eli Lilly.
