Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the open war between the United States and Israel against Iran could last several months, but not years, contrary to previous conflicts in the region. In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu emphasized that the war could be swift and decisive, starting with attacks on Tehran that could lead to the killing of the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran attacked Israel and Arab countries with American bases.


President Trump initially estimated a duration of four to five weeks for the conflict but acknowledged the possibility of a longer duration. Netanyahu believes that this war could create opportunities for peace in the Middle East, including between Israel and Saudi Arabia. He also stated that the war could facilitate a change of the Iranian government by the Iranian people. Despite these prospects, a poll showed that only 25% of Americans support attacks on Iran, reflecting skepticism about U.S. military involvement in the region. The objectives of the war have changed, with Trump initially suggesting the overthrow of the Iranian government but later focusing on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
