American and Ukrainian negotiators have set an ambitious goal for a peace agreement with Russia, aiming for March, although the deadline is likely to be missed due to disagreements over territory. The agreement is expected to be subject to a referendum in Ukraine, which could coincide with national elections. Recent discussions took place in Abu Dhabi and Miami, but U.S. officials have warned that time is running out to finalize the agreement, considering the upcoming internal elections in the U.S.

Ukraine wants a ceasefire during the election campaign to ensure the integrity of the referendum, but faces legislative and logistical challenges. The main obstacle remains the fate of the Donbas region, with Russia demanding full control over it, a requirement unacceptable to Kyiv. Additionally, the issue of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant complicates negotiations, with Moscow rejecting American proposals. Although the majority of Ukrainians oppose territorial concessions, support for Zelensky remains high, and he is open to quick elections, despite skepticism regarding the timeline proposed by the U.S.
